It's about 11 metres from the house to the street. The first trench that I dug unearthed some old foundations. It wasn't worth trying to go through them, so I had to start again and go around. We've been luckier the second time. I still have to deepen the trench to 2ft (60 cm) and at the house end I have to dig a tunnel (similar to a prison break) under the concrete path to the house wall.
The Ikea kitchen units arrived this morning, so we will be busy assembling them over the weekend. Then it will be time to start thinking seriously about the kitchen and bathroom plumbing.
How long did it take to dig the trench? I hope the weather is good there.
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive trench. I wonder what the foundations were? A Roman Baths perhaps?
ReplyDeleteStarted the trench yesterday. the ground is actually really easy to dig at the moment because it has been so wet. We've had a couple of very nice days. If it is good weather tomorrow then I'll start the tunnel.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I don't think it was anything that exciting - unless the Romans used a lot of concrete! I didn't find any coins or artefacts :( I also unearthed something that looked like a concrete path, so I guess there must have been something here before the house was built in the 50s.
Hmmm. I have to say that what might not be a lot of work to you in the prime of life looks like a great deal of work to me at this stage of my tenure of this thing I call my body.
ReplyDeleteI got a stomach bug after working in the garden, and now I've come down with a cold so all works have ceased and I would have to agree- it feels like a great deal of work at the moment. Hopefully I'll get back to it in the next couple of days.
